The Barron area is mainly underlain by a stock of Middle to Late Triassic rock consisting of hornblende-quartz diorite to granodiorite and tonalite; hornblende-pyroxene diorite; and may include amphibolite and pyroxene-bearing amphibolite. The stock intruded into Mississippian volcanic rock of the Stikine Assemblage.

The Barron showing is described as an area of strongly sheared, silicified and pyritized diorite and mafic volcanics cut by a north trending fault; locally pods of semi-massive pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite occur within the shear zone. A grab sample assayed 1.48 per cent copper, 6.0 parts per million silver (Fieldwork 1993-01, Table 1-11-1B, page 173). A gold assay was not available due to high pyrrhotite content of sample.

In 1992, a BC Geological Survey geological mapping project in the Tatsamenie and Bearskin lakes area resulted in an updated regional geological framework. The Barron showing was discovered by the survey team at this time.
